Everybody’s kinda gotta hustle and bustle. You just gotta work all the time, you can’t lose momentum. It’s hard to know, it’s hard to say. A lot of people want the success or they want the stardom but they aren’t either willing to or able to go that far from home or be away from family. Or they make choices to do other stuff, or it’s just chance. Whether it’s chance or luck or whatever, you just don’t know. The older I get the more I look back and I think ‘How did I do all this and why was I the one that got to do so much of it?’ I don’t know the answers to those questions, except I know I never stopped working. I still ain’t stopped and I ain’t stoppin’ until I keel over somewhere.

Dolly Parton spits wisdom from her adorable face in the latest episode of Bullseye with the lovely Jesse Thorn. Her interview starts at 42:25.
Note to self: Take the jump. Leave California. Work your buns off. If anybody is worth listening to, it’s Dolly. There are always obstacles, sometimes comfort can be one of them, but the main thing is to face them head-on and keep working at success until you can’t work any more because you’re dead.
